Danelle Putnam, Missionary in the Dominican Republic, has been ministering to the Haitian people along with her team at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Jimani, a town on the Haitian border. The hospital is brimming with Haitians suffering from fractures and trauma, as a result of the earthquake. It is overflowing--last evening food was served to roughly 700 people, including 500 patients, the rest being family members and doctors. The hospital normally houses 60. Danelle has requested prayers for:
- the people of Haiti who are injured physically or in spirit, who are hungry or thirsty, who are homeless.
- the relief workers who need strength and health so that the Lord can use them to help many.
- safe travel for those traveling to, within, and from Haiti.
- the provision of food, medical, personal hygiene, cleaning, buiding, and bedding supplies now and in the future along with the logistics for their distribution.
- the use of His people's time, talents, and treasure to help the Haitian people.
- opportunities to share God's Word as a source of comfort and hope.
- encouragement for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in the Lutheran Church in Haiti.
Its been over a week since the devastating earthquake struck Haiti and Lutheran World Relief has been working with partners on the ground to ensure that the people of Haiti get access to food, water and shelter. Many of you have asked what you can do to help. We all know LWML women like to be involved hands on and LWR is providing us with such an opportunity. There is a desperate need for health kits and quilts. Just this week, along with partners at Church World Service, LWR sent a shipment of health kits and layettes to Haiti. That shipment depleted their stock of health kits and many more will be needed to fulfill needs in the coming weeks and months.
Will you help with the need for health kits and quilts? LWR wants to bring relief and comfort to the people of Haiti, but they also need to continue to fulfill requests from around the world. Click here to read how your zone and society can help.
