Given the non-geographic nature of our district, the purpose of this page is to provide a way for us as sisters in Christ to stay in touch. It is meant to offer a vehicle by which we can encourage one another and share ideas. A space has been reserved for your zone to summarize events such as Rallies, Workshops, Retreats, Prayer Services, Joy Days, LWML Sunday, Mission Sundays, etc. Photos may be submitted. Individual societies may also contribute by sharing Bible Study resources, member development and fund-raising ideas, mite initiatives, craft projects, recipes for large gatherings, etc. Send submissions to Patricia Hirshman, 10 S 477 Rutgers Court, Downers Grove, IL 60516 or fax them to 708-484-9832 or e-mail them as an attachment to admin@englishdistrictlwml.org
The Spring Rally of the Greater Chicago Zone LWML was held on Saturday, March 29th at Grace English Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. A beautiful Communion Worship Service included a message entitled DO Take It So Personally by Rev. Dr. Dean Pittelko who officiated. The program for the day featured Hicham Chehab from People of the Book Lutheran Outreach (P.O.B.L.O.), a ministry supported by congregations in the LCMS. Through powerful words and photos, Mr. Chehab, told the riveting story of how the Lord lead him from his life as an extremist who fought the Christian militia in Lebanon to his work as a missionary who spreads the Gospel to Muslims in the Chicagoland area. A business meeting followed the presentation and included the election of new officers and approval of by-law changes. The YWR for the upcoming English District LWML Convention, Joy Compton, who is from the zone was introduced. The event ended with a delicious luncheon and lots of great fellowship.Zone societies are reminded to remit mites to our treasurer, Betty Steben, 733 South Monterey, Villa Park, IL 60181.Our mission goal is $2,800. The grants to be funded during the 2007-2009 biennium include: Katrina Disaster Relief, Prison Ministry of Deaconess Lori Wilbert, Uptown Ministry, and Lutherbrook Pastoral Care Program.

Would your society be interested in replicating this servant event? Click here for three different soup recipes suitable for pint jars. We opted to fill quart jars instead, so we doubled each recipe and put the excess in a zip lock bag which was then attached to the jar.
The LWML of Messiah Lutheran Church in Forest Lake, Minnesota recently hosted a guest speaker during a Sunday morning Bible study hour. Peg Johnson, of St. John's Lutheran Church in Woodbury, Minnesota spoke about the Lutheran Blind Mission. There are 12 million adults and children who are blind or visually impaired. Ninety-five per cent of them are unchurched. Mrs. Johnson has visited ten LCMS churches in our area to tell of a special project to produce 200 copies of the new hymnal in Braille. The cost of the project is $9,300. A free will offering was taken for this endeavor. The hymnals will be available free of charge to any congregation who has need of them.
